The Ying Yang Crystal
LOG LINE:
Set in Burma Japan and Thailand. A young American traveler finds romance and
intrigue while searching for an ancient crystal with mystical powers.
SYNOPSIS:
Created in the 4th Century B.C. by the legendary traveling Chinese monk Di
Ping, the Ying-Yang Crystal had been a symbol of balance and harmony for the
South East Asian nation of Burma for centuries.
During World War II the Ying portion of the crystal was appropriated by an
unscrupulous Major from the Japanese occupational forces. This Major is now
the head of The Yamamoto clan one of the most powerful Yakuza organized
crime families in Japan.
Our protagonist Tim Stallworth has just started his second year of teaching
for "The International School" in Burma. Tim, a recent college graduate from
a respectable liberal arts school in rural Pennsylvania, enjoys his teaching
position, as well as all the perks associated with the ex patriot lifestyle.
At first he felt guilt pangs about his personal cook, gardener and
chauffeur; but soon enough, with the help of sevral Burmese girlfriends, he
manages to get past his egalitarian sensibilities.
Par Ten, 5 time all Burmese karate champion is Tim's gardener, but also his
private karate instructor. Tim is constantly awed by Par Ten?s talents and
humility, trying to absorb any and all philosophies Par-Ten affords his
young disciple.
Tim has become friendly with Muay, Par Ten's eldest son. Muay is a year
younger than Tim. The 2 young men enjoy watching local kick boxing matches,
meeting girls, and exploring the physical history of this ancient Buddhist
land.
The Par ten family has owned land in the Burmese capitol for hundreds of
years. Retiring years ago, he works for Tim mostly to keep up his gardening
and English skills.
Eager to impress his American friend, Muay invites Tim to see his family's
art collection, and, disobeying his father?s orders of keeping the
collection secret, Muay takes Tim to the cottage of his family's compound.
priceless Buddhist sculptures and other South East Asian works of art
dominate the room. Awed by the collection, Tim thought it impossible that
these could be
the very original works he had seen in museum photographs, and college
textbooks. In the middle of the room sat the Yang counterpart of the fabled
Ying-Yang Crystal. The Yang Crystal reminded Tim of a curved number 9, made
of the purest crystallized white alabaster, with an eye of pitch black.
After Muay relates the story of the Crystal, Tim swears he will not
betray Muay's confidence to anyone.
That evening there is a formal dinner party at one of Tim's neighbor's
homes. Diplomats and expatriots of many nations are there. A hip, Japanese
traveler engages Tim in conversation. They seem to have a great deal in
common. After two too many glasses of Champagne, Tim mentions the fantastic
room he had seen earlier
in the day. After stumbling home several hours later, Tim falls into a
peaceful sleep, unaware of the chain of events he has unwittingly set into
motion.
As Tim sleeps, a figure clad in black slips up and over the walled Par Ten
compound. As swift as the wind, and as silent as night, the ninja makes his
way to the treasure room. Using acid to break 2 of the iron bars, the ninja
steals his way into the room. First startled by the magnitude of his find,
the Ninja gathers his senses quickly, and continues his mission. Looking
like Indiana Jones clad in black, the figure makes off with the Yang
Crystal.
The next morning, Tim is awakened by his cook, Mar. "Mr. Tim, Mr. Tim come
look television!" The revolutionary group Miop Red has attacked the capitol.
The nation has been thrust into a revolution. As Tim is watching the CNN
feed, Muay and his father Par Ten arrive. They explain the theft of the
crystal to Tim. First in shock, then disbelief, he quickly remembers
the conversation with the Japanese fellow of the previous evening.
With no other leads, the three men travel to the Japanese Ambassador?s home
to try and get some answers. The Ambassador is busy with the violence that
has just erupted all over Burma, but he makes time for Tim and his Burmese
companions. The Ambassador informs the trio that this Japanese traveler was
his son's a guest, and had left the country early that morning, traveling
not to India,
as he had explained to Tim, but back to Japan.
The Ambassador believes the myth of the crystal, and understands at once
that the stolen Yang crystal set me motion the chain of events that have
taken place since its disappearance. The Ambassador, Mr. Sato, recognizes
the importance of not allowing the Yang crystal to be reunited with the its
Ying twin and decides at once to help the three men.
Using his influence, Sato arranges for a flight to Japan to search for the
crystal.
Par Ten has Muay stay in Burma to watch over the family. Sato, Tim and Par
Ten travel to Japan. On arriving in Japan, they find that the Japanese yen
has inexplicably skyrocketed, and there is also news of a bill that is to
pass in the U.S. restoring the military of Japan. These monumental actions
serve to confirm that the Yang counterpart has arrived in Japan.
After checking with contacts, Sato quickly learns of a meeting the Yamamoto
clan has with Suzuki (The traveler/thief). Suzuki plans to sell the
Yang-counterpart to the Yakuza crime family.
Prepared with traditional weapons and tactics, Tim, Sato and Par Ten foil
the meeting and reclaim the Yang Crystal.
Returning to South East Asia, the trio is forced to land in Thailand as they
were unable to land in Burma due to the revolution. They cross into Burma on
an overland route from Thailand, and as the group is approaching the capitol
they receive word that a cease fire has been agreed upon. The power of the
crystal has worked to restore harmony in the region.
