BIKRAM YOGA

Professor Kano took the Dangerous elements out of Ju-Jitsu and created the sport of Judo

Bikram Choudhury put 26 yoga postures together in a certain order to create Bikram yoga.

As Judo is strenuous you will work up a sweat in the workout  Bikram is done in a heated room (105-125 degrees) so you are drenched in sweat
Very difficult to get good at judo, it is all technique and practice Bikram is technique, looking at your posture in the mirror and adjusting
Girls as well as guys do Judo on an international level  More girls in Bikram, but guys are getting into it
Very Pure; Judo is done only in a ki on a Mat  Bikram has no props, just a towel to catch sweat, and your shorts
All exercise is about breath and you cannot continue if your
breath is not controlled
Yoga emphasizes breath, and the breathing exercise at the beginning of class focuses the student on breath
Ju-jitsu is Basically Japanese street fighting or actually
farm/hillside fighting. Using the ki which was worn
by the peasant class in Japan
Yoga is also from Asia, India
specifically.
When you learn Judo, you learn some Japanese names of waza's (techniques)  When you learn Bikram yoga you learn some Sanscrit names of asana's(poses)
Uchi mata is Inside Reap Jan u shi-rasana is Head to knee pose
When trying Aikido or any other Martial art, you really
miss a Judo work out
If you try some other hatha yoga, you miss the Bikram workout
There is great respect for the teacher, and senior students.
You wait for your teacher to move before you move
When taking class you wait until the teacher or senior moves into the posture

Why should Judo players do Bikram yoga?

Bikram yoga beats the hell out of the sauna for losing weight.
Your burning calories, and sweating crazy amounts, Plus, you don't feel like eating after class
Bikram is amazing for any injuries, bringing blood supply to all areas of the body
Bikram increases your lung capacity, increases your focus, balance, concentration,
all key elements for any judo player
Judo players are naturals at Bikram yoga They already have great body awareness, and flexibility.

Bikram yoga is not what you might think. No candles or chanting.
Just kick ass, long intense streches in a hot room, a real challenge for anyone.
